We have just finished our shooting of the next Pottery of Mexico Volume in Ocumicho. While we had indicated that it was going to be about the Trees of Life, we skipped ahead and shot Ocumihco instead and will double back to Trees of Life in the coming months. Some of the highlights of the trip included attending the Patamban Flower Festival, catching up with some of our San Jose de Gracia friends, and of course the wonderful pottery found in Ocumicho. Here are some screen shots.

On the weekend of July 12-13, 2008 I traveled to Santa Fe for the 5th annual International Folk Art Market on beautiful Museum Hill right by the folk art museum. http://www.folkartmarket.org/index.php For appreciators of international art, this experience is not to be missed. In Santa Fe I met with Anna O'Leary and several artists her Barro Sin Plomo organization sponsored: German Montoya and Marcelo Montoya Vasquez of Metepec. We made plans to meet again in Mexico and to include their lead-free casuelas in a future documentary on the functional and decorative ceramics art of Metepec. Unfortunately the star of our film, Pedro Hernandez Carlos was unable to attend as planned but his family was represented there by a very grand pineapple punchbowl. I did visit with Hilario Alejos Madrigal, another well-known pineapple potter of San Jose de Gracia, who expressed his sincere admiration for the film after viewing it, and he hopes that the film helps publicize to the world the amazing works being produced in their small village in Michoacan. |

7-12-08 - Pottery of Mexico: Volume 1 played at Cosas in Boerne Texas. Owners Pam and Bob were fabulous hosts. They carry some great work by Pedro Hernandez who you can see in Pottery of Mexico: Volume 1. Boerne is just a west of San Antonio. If you are ever in the area Cosas is worth a trip.
